Brass & Woodwind Lessons

Our Brass & Woodwind instructors teach brass and woodwind basics as well as how to play in solo and ensemble situations. Music theory is also incorporated into the lessons.  Our teachers are certified music educators and perform professionally themselves, so you can ask them anything you need to know and they will know the answers.  

Want to learn marching band music? They can help.  Jazz or classical band music? No problem! Lessons will end with something fun to take home and show  your family.

Edison School of Music and Dance in Edison, NJ offers saxophone, trumpet, trombone, tuba, clarinet and french horn lessons for students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students. Our private saxophone lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes. Children as young as age 5 can start to learn to play the saxophone.

Our brass and woodwind teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn classical or pop tunes, our teachers are happy to help you become the brass or woodwind player you want to be. Your lessons will include the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory but will also incorporate your favorite music into your lessons. If you do not own a saxophone, you can rent one at a local instrument shop. Our saxophone teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love of the brass and woodwinds.

‍HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY BRASS OR WOODWINDS?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?

Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands. We also send lesson notes weekly and sometimes create videos to help in the most effective way possible.
